Grit & Determination: How BCCS Staff are Navigating

the Pandemic to Treat Clients

by Dr. Lynn Morrison, BCCS CEO

Events around the Coronavirus outbreak are moving very fast, and Brandywine Counseling & Community Services (BCCS) is moving along with them as we adapt and devote ourselves to ensuring essential care and medicine for our clients.

Every day our BCCS staff, medical and support teams, and counselors are dedicated to bringing help and hope to communities in need; more now than ever. This means:

  • sharing educational and prevention information about the virus to our clients to help answer questions and provide guidance during this confusing time;
  • continuing to bring health services to your neighborhood through our statewide mobile program COPE (Community Outreach and Prevention Information),
  • and working hard to keep our location hours of operation steady so we can continue with client intake for as long as we can.

Following Federal Government guidelines, we have more options for the Opioid Treatment programs such as increasing ‘take home’ medication for clients. We are also identifying high risk clients for extended take home as well as those in need of medication refills for mental health disorders. Also, our medical staff are now treating high-risk patients via telehealth, a digital technology program that allows two-way audiovisual communication between BCCS and our clients.

We’re looking at all avenues possible to bring care to our clients, while also protecting our own workforce. You are encouraged to visit our website and Facebook page for updates and changes to our hours of operation or program changes. In the meantime, please take sensible precautions for you and others around you.

Coronavirus causes COVID-19 (COronaVIrus Disease 2019). In order to limit the spread of the virus and reduce/slow cases of COVID-19, we urge everyone to follow CDC protocols:

  • Practice social distancing
  • Resist groups and crowds
  • Regular hand washing, following the 20-second rule
  • Keep your hands away from your face at all times
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with your arm or tissues
  • Daily, clean your immediate surfaces (door handles, light switches, etc.)

At BCCS we believe change is good. We are confident that together we will make a positive impact on containing this virus and helping get back to living healthy and fulfilling lives.
