Governor Signs Substance Use Treatment Bill, Extends Access to Care

On September 29, 2017, Dr. Lynn Fahey, BCCS CEO, and other members of the behavioral health community, joined Delaware Senator Bryan Townsend as Governor Carney signed SB109. This landmark bill, sponsored by Townsend, extends substance abuse treatment rights to Medicaid patients. These patients now have similar access to treatment to individuals with private health insurance.

For more than 30 years, BCCS has provided substance use and behavioral health services, which is why we were proud to testify in support of SB109. BCCS fully supports eliminating barriers to patient care and allowing treatment providers, not insurance companies, to determine the level of care needed.

We would like to thank Senator Townsend and Representative David Bentz for sponsoring this bill. Your courage to fight for change will improve the chances of recovery for so many patients. Your actions have given hope to those suffering from mental health and addiction disorders. Your efforts have surely saved lives.
