A Heartfelt Letter for Your Loved One in Recovery

A Heartfelt Letter for your Loved One in Recovery

Thanksgiving is a time to gather with loved ones and give thanks for the many blessings in our lives. But it’s also about compassion. Maybe there will be someone at your dinner table celebrating their first sober Thanksgiving or perhaps they’ve been on their recovery journey for quite some time now.

This Thanksgiving, let them know how proud you are of them.

Here’s an example of a letter you can share with them. Feel free to make it your own.

“I know you’ve been through some very difficult times, yet you bravely made the decision to start your path to recovery. That was a huge step and not an easy one. But you stayed with it. That was a milestone moment, and I celebrate it with you.

You’ve had your struggles and have worked through a lot to get to this point. Those struggles, and how you fought through them, are a part of your story and who you are today. In the end, with support, you put your words and willingness into action and have made tremendous progress. I am so proud of you.

So, here’s what I’m asking of you: this Thanksgiving, take the time to feel grateful for your recovery and the people who root for you – your friends, family, and community. I hope you feel thankful for how far you’ve come. I know I am.”

Brandywine Counseling & Community Services helps hundreds of Delawareans in their most difficult times. We welcome their stories, listen to their struggles, and work together on a plan to improve their quality of life, one day at a time. We also know that the support of family, friends and community has a huge impact on a person’s recovery journey. So, thank you for being a part of the support system for your loved one and, together, we are making healthier individuals, families, and an overall healthier Delaware.
